Yeast Free Bread Recipe
If you’ve decided to give up yeast, but you think you’ll miss eating bread, check out this great yeast free bread recipe.
Ingredients
- 3 cups wheat flour (preferably stone ground whole wheat)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 cup liquid fat (e.g. olive oil, vegetable oil)
- 1 1/2 water or rice milk (or any liquid you prefer)
Directions
- Mix the dry ingredients together
- Don’t sift the flour.
- Mix the liquid ingredients together, then add to the dry ingredients.
- Stir thoroughly, until there’s no more dry flour left.
- If more liquid is needed, then add a bit more (this can vary depending on the humidity of the air in your house).
- Try to get the dough so it’s moist but not sticky.
- Keep in mind, it can take a few minutes for the liquid to be totally absorbed into the flour, so don’t be too hasty to add extra flour.
- It’s important not to overwork the dough.
- With oiled hands, shape into an oval or ball.
- Lightly mark an X or diamond shape on the top. This prevents the crust splitting.
- Put on a clean bakin sheet.
- Bake at 400F/200C for 40 minutes.
Variations
- For a foccacia flavor, rub the dough with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle on some oregano and sea salt.
- For an added bit of crunch, sprinkle seeds on top or in the dough.
For using as a sweet tea-time bread, use some fresh fruit juice in place of the rice milk or other liquid. - For a more savoury version, use tomato juice as the liquid, and add chopped sundried tomatoes to the dough.

Great ideas on variations, I tried a little cheese mixed in there towards the end of the cycle and that was good too. To be honest I dont have anything against yeast, but I thought I’d try the recipe anyway and it is quite delicious! Thanks!
